Frederick Douglass National Historic Site House and Tree Tour

Join Casey Trees and HABA for a two-part tour exploring the history and urban forestry of the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site.

This tour includes two components:

  • The House Tour: Led by National Park Service (NPS) staff or docents, focusing on the historic home, the life and legacy of Frederick Douglass, and the preservation of the estate.

  • The Tree Tour: Led by Casey Trees staff, highlighting how the canopy contributes to the ecosystem and detailing the ongoing efforts to restore the historic landscape through strategic plantings.

Registration & Cost

  • Cost: This event is free to attend, but space is limited to 20 persons and registration is required on Casey Trees’ website.

  • Priority Registration: Historic Anacostia residents and friends have priority registration access through Wednesday, September 30.

  • General Public: Registration will open to the general public starting Thursday, October 1.

  • Audience: Participants of all ages are welcome. Youth must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

  • Arrival: The house tour will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. Please arrive at the Visitor Center by 9:15 a.m.
